Compact Digital Camera review: “The ABCs of Point-and-Shoot Cameras”

Just come across this new article from PC magazine. The title of the article is “The ABCs of Point-and-Shoot Cameras”. The writer of the article has a very details review on some Compact Digital Camera Best model available in the market today. Here are some highlights of the content:

The write arrange the models into 3 classes: under $200, between $200-$300 and $300+(according to their list price). It covers a wide range of brand like Canon, Sony, Fuji, Panasonic, Nikon, Kodak, Pentax and Casio. If you are in the market of buying your next compact digital camera, don’t miss out this article.

Canon PowerShot A590 IS (“IS” stands for image stabilization) is one of the under $200 model, it is their favorite budget compact camera(in fact, it is my favorite in this price range too), this model offers a number of advanced features such as face detection, image stabilization, and some manual exposure settings, for a very sweet $179.99.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T2, however offer a cool feature which let you do in-camera editing through the touch screen controls so that you can, for example, remove red-eye from your shots before you even take the images off the camera. It also features 4GB of onboard storage, eliminating the need for memory cards.

The Nikon Coolpix P60 has another interesting feature: Its electronic viewfinder providing access to the entire menu system and letting you review images as well. (While an electronic viewfinder looks just like an optical viewfinder, the image you see is actually projected onto a tiny screen.). Why? You may ask….may be in case the environment is too bright to look at the LCD screen, or you drop the camera and the LCD screen broken?

Beside taking still pictures, compact digital camera also take video, in this area, two models need to mention: Kodak EasyShare M1033 offers the ability to record HD-quality video at a resolution of 1,280-by-720 at 30 frames per second, while Casio Exilim EX-Z9 and EX-Z80, are integrated with YouTube, so you can easily upload and title your videos without even visiting the site.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 digital camera review

Just read this article review(from pocket-lint.co.uk) of the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3. A Compact Digital Camera Best target “enthusiast” photographers. It equips with a list of high-end features than other Compact, point and shoot digital cameras.

The LX3 offers a neat set of advanced features:

  • -          Optical image stabilization
  • -          Leica DC-Vario-Summicron, ultra wide-angle 24-60mm (35mm film equivalent) lens Venus Engine IV image processor
  • -          ISO 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 and 3200.
  • -          A tough all metal construction in 2 colors: Black and Silver
  • -          Picture in RAW format
  • -          AF/AE lock button
  • -          A new Intelligent Auto mode or “iA” (which is unerringly accurate at selecting the correct shooting mode for the scene presented to the lens.)

One thing need to note is that the zoom is only 2.5x optical (which I think is a bit small). Also the LX3 produce 10-megapixels pictures which other competitors in the same level may equip with higher megapixel with their cameras.

Compact Digital Camera Best Info

Welcome visit to this Compact Digital Camera Best Info Blog.

Unless you do not own a camera, chances that you have at least one compact digital camera at home. I know some people have 2 or 3 or even more in the family. If you do a search on the net, example Wikipedia, you can easily found what “compact digital camera” means. Here is what Wikipedia say:

Compact digital cameras=== Compact cameras are designed to be small and portable; the smallest are described as subcompacts or “ultra-compacts”. Compact cameras are usually designed to be easy to use, sacrificing advanced features and picture quality for compactness and simplicity; images can usually only be stored using Lossy compression (JPEG). Most have a built-in flash usually of low power, sufficient for nearby subjects. Live preview is almost always used to frame the photo. They may have limited motion picture capability. Compacts often have macro capability, but if they have zoom capability the range is usually less than for bridge and DSLR cameras. They have a greater depth of field, allowing objects within a large range of distances from the camera to be in sharp focus. They are particularly suitable for casual and “snapshot” use.

So, your compact digital camera should be comfortable sit inside your pocket and whenever you see an object of interest, you just point to the object, and shoot the picture without too much worry. Although DSLR(“Digital Single-Lens Reflex”) cameras are getting more popular and more affordable but compact camera still has its place in most people’s house.

The first compact camera was produced by the Japanese manufacturer Konica in 1968, called Konica C35. Plastic film was the media used to take picture. No digital, no live preview. And it was a manual focus camera. It was until 1977, when Konica produced C35 AF, the first compact camera with autofocus feature. (Can you imagine taking picture without autofocus feature?) The marketplace for this type of small, portable camera begins to growth non-stop. More and more camera companies joined marketplace (Ricoh, Olympus, Minolta…and more).

The Compact Digital Camera Best Info Blog is about my interest in camera and photography. This Blog will have information resource around camera brands, model, new release, trends, accessory, tips of taking better pictures…and more.

This is what this blog is about. Stick around…and enjoy.
